Days 76-77
Okay here's my two in one post. Saturday was fabulous! It was the first truly HOT day of the year and I got to wear short sleeves and my sandals! I loved it. Jordan and I got up and took a trip downtown to Reader's Corner on Hillsboro St. If you love books and you don't mind buying used this place is amazing! I love it, outside they have a wall of books, one side is $.10 and the other side is $.25 and you can find all kinds of things! They even have a whole shelf of The Book of Mormon! Inside they have a pretty good selection of books and I can usually find something I'm looking for in there. Afterwards we stopped by Nice Price Books which is also on Hillsboro St...it's kind of up the street on the left from Reader's Corner. Aaand I officially don't like them. They don't really have much in the way of books but they do have a TON of DVD's, CD's and Vinyls. On the way back to the house we stopped by Edward McKay Used Books on Capital. Neither of us had been there and I was shocked! You walk in and it's all warehouse style used books all over the place! Unfortunately they're extremely unorganized. All the other used book stores I've ever been to are incredibly organized and have every book shelved by genre and then alphabetical by author, at least. This place had the books in stacked crates set up to resemble bookshelves and they had them separated by genre (but each genre has different titles than I'm used to so it made it a little more difficult) and then the authors are alphabetical but all the A's are mixed in together, as well as the B's, C's and D's...etc etc on down the line. They're just thrown into a hodgepodge in the boxes. I mean they're stacked like books should be so you can read the spine and all but you might find a book by Dean Koontz in the D's as well as the K's and Koontz is right next to Stephen King. I'm nuts about my books and DVD's having some kind of organization going on but these were all paille-maille tossed in there and it drove me banana's because I'd have to search the entire "R" section just to find two Kathy Reichs books.
Anyway afterwards we each took a new book and went to Durrant Park. We sat in the sun and read for about an hour and a half and then we had to get home and get ready to head over to our friend Jason's sister's house. Jason was hosting a bonfire and his sister has a huge telescope so we could look at the Saturn and the stars and the moon. I got to see a crater on the moon! It was way cool! AND I got to see Saturn, but it just looked like a little golden sticker in the sky because apparently it moves so fast you can't focus close up on it for long enough to actually focus the telescope. Still, the whole evening was way cool getting to chill with fun people around a huge fire and enjoy everyone's company. Jordan and Stacy got taught how to use a lasso! That was neat. And then we had smoked hotdogs (I'm not a fan!) I've decided hotdogs need to taste like juicy beef or pork and not like a fire. LOL. Afterwards we went home and I talked to Nate for a while before crashing.
Today was an Eastern Regional Stake Conference Broadcast and we went over to our friend Spencer's house because apparently he'd heard you could watch it on BYU TV or online, nope. Turns out it's only being broadcast in the church buildings. So, us in our jeans and Mary in her sports shorts had to go to the Stake Center on Six Forks Rd. and we snuck into one of the rooms and turned up the volume on the speakers. We only missed one talk but the rest of them were really great. After it was over we went back to Spencer's and had hot dogs and cheeseburgers out on the back deck and talked and enjoyed one anothers company. Then Jordan and I had to leave because we were meeting some people at the IMAX to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D! The movie was pretty awesome but a little disappointing...I was hoping it would be one of those movies you just have to keep going to see because it was so awesome and you rave about it and tell all of your friends about it, like when we saw Avatar, but no. It was only pretty good. I would like to see it again from further away though, we were in the second row. I do recommend you see it at least once and in 3D because it's really neat but if you're broke wait till it hits DVD.
After the IMAX we came home and I napped while Jordan watched TV and fell asleep. We were supposed to have Sara come over but she texted and said she was sick and would have to reschedule. So instead we watched the remaining episodes of Gilmore Girls that we'd gotten on Netflix and then Jordan put in a really cheesy movie called The Spirit. I had seen enough after about 10 minutes and decided to put the dogs to bed, shower, and read while waiting on Nate to call. Ahhh Sunday night, the anticipation of Monday hot on it's heels, ends way too soon!
