Beach Photo Shoot

I'm still testing my skills behind the camera with people in front. I'm more of a nature photographer/random items photographer so when I decided to start taking on portrait photography I will admit I was a bit perplexed. People are hard. You have to take 100x more pictures just to get a good one with everyones eyes open and everyone looking happy. So instead of doing test runs on potential customers I've enlisted friends to be my models. Two of my friends got my brain in photo shoot mode and I began coming up with all these different kinds of fun shoots we could do. I remembered that on the season 3 box for The OC they had done a fancy dress but relaxed photo shoot at the beach. I wanted to re-create this a bit...needless to day it was quite different from the one I looked at but at the same time it was fun and the pictures turned out great!

My friend Emily let me borrow her Nikon FA 35mm film camera with 50mm lens and I also borrowed my mothers Nikon coolpix D90 but somehow managed to forget the battery at Stephs apartment, post-charge. So, I ended up using my sad little Canon A720IS point and shoot...it does the job but I still feel like a higher end camera with more lens options would do better. I'll get there one day. Anyway, below are a few choice shots from Sunday June 27th... the black and whites are from the Nikon FA and the color all come from the Canon. (and I threw in some Steph took of me with the Canon because I think they look lovely). Also, there are more picture that I have yet to edit...these are just the ones I was able to finish yesterday. I'll post some more faves from the next batch later.
