Lie, Cheat, Steal, Kill

*Pardon the Political Post*
We live in a society where these things are acceptable assuming you don't get caught. And if you do get caught stealing or killing then lie and say you're crazy and you've got sympathy from the community behind you. People murder small children, families, women, men whomever and then when they get caught and are given the death penalty there is a massive outcry from the public! "This is so inhumane!" Yes and it was horribly humane the way he raped that small girl and then slit her throat and watched her bleed on the floor until she died. Or my wasn't that humane how he tied up that whole family and made them watch as one by one he slowly mutilated and killed them. There are times when they get the wrong person and it comes out that they are innocent and their life has now been spent behind bars waiting to die when they did nothing to deserve it and there are times that people die who didn't deserve it...but let's face it...how many times in this decade has someone who actually got the death penalty died from it? Some hot shot, overly paid lawyer somewhere files motion after motion until this person is left to lead a comfortable life out in prison.

Okay. Gosh Ariel where the heck did this come from? I made a huge leap but bear with me on this. After my 8-5 job I go over to my parents house where I am helping my dad by transcribing interviews for some PI cases he has. The most recent interview came out to 34 pages in MS Word at a 14pt font. For three days I sat and listened to this interview piece by piece and wrote down what was being said. Without giving too much away here's what's going on:
There was a black man who died from being shot in the chest with a .22 caliber pistol. There is apparent gang ties to the crime. All of this occurred because of a scuffle between the dead man and some of his "friends" at a party where he came back with guys and guns. Okay so with that knowledge I began transcribing my first interview, which it turns out was not the first interview the officer's had done from the group.

A young white male who is obviously uncomfortable is being interviewed by two Detectives. They tell him he's there willingly, not under arrest and can leave whenever he pleases (one even gets up walks over to the door and shows him that it's unlocked and opens and closes it). The young man insists he just wants to tell them what happened about these people coming to his home and making him fear for his life. He tells them more and more information as the interview goes on and the stories keep changing, who was here or there and what happened to start this... he says one thing at the beginning and then later it changes or is added to. He "can't remember" a lot of things because he was scared. The closer I got to the end of the interview the more irritated and sickened I got. I know what actually happened because dad explained it to me earlier and the more this kid lies and changes his story the more upset I get. JUST TELL THE TRUTH YOU MORON! It's not hard. As the interview gets closer to an end the boy gets more and more uncomfortable with the line of questioning until he clams up and starts saying he wants to go get a lawyer.

My issue with this is that it comes out later that this boy is the one who shot the man. It was pure self defence, gang related or not. All he had to do was go tell the Detectives look yes I shot this guy because he came to my house with a group of guys, two of them had guns and the instigator came running up on the porch and started a fight with my friend. I'm sorry but in that instance I truly believe it is okay to protect yourself and shoot the other person. I'm sure things would have gone much more smoothly for this young man had he just been honest and the Detectives kept telling him that was his chance to tell the truth about what really happened. Instead he's been arrested for murder and is awaiting trial.

I know this is a pretty big leap from what I was talking about before. But bear with me...it just goes back to lying. Why lie? Why not be honest in this situation because you've gotta know that if you lie you will get caught and life will be so much worse for you. It goes back to yesterday, I read Kelley's blog about how this kid was honestly surprised when he got caught on a B&E of a car...and as I was transcribing this interview I couldn't help but make a connection to the two. Why in the world is this kid so surprised that these cops don't believe him when his story has changed every time wind blows?! Man up dude, take responsibility for your actions...OH WAIT! We live in a pathetic society where that is no longer taught to the younger generations. Unprotected sex..no problem they make abortions for that. Stealing from the grocery store...no problem he's a kid and they do that sort of thing. Kid gets arrested for B&E...no problem mom and dad will bail him out and then go right back to ignoring him.

My advice for the day? MAN UP! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS WHATEVER THEY MAY BE! You took the time to make the mistake now you have to deal with whatever comes along because of that. That's all part of life man. If everyone would freaking take responsibility for their own actions we might actually be able to have a decent society. But as that will never happen I'll just sit here and watch as our world slowly degrades to the point of Sodom and Gomorrah....Okay so I wont just sit here I will make an effort in my own part of the world to make things better. If I have kids I'll teach them to do right and I'll own up when I make mistakes and well I hope you all will too... especially if you made it to this part of my little tirade. :-)
