Breakfast

As the old adage goes..."Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

I saw a news report on TV the other day that tried to debunk this. They said scientists have found that eating breakfast does not indeed keep you from being less hungry throughout the day. But the problem with that is, I think they've missed the point. Breakfast isn't important because it stops you from being hungry through the day, it's important because it kick starts your metabolism for the day, it gets nourishment into your body so that you don't feel sluggish, and it feeds your brain. Okay so I don't know if that's all scientific or anything but you can't say it's not the most important meal of the day anymore just because scientists say it doesn't keep you from being hungry. It's still the most important part of the day! Think about it this way. You eat dinner at around 7pm and then you don't eat anything again for another 11 or 12 hours! How is your body supposed to function if you don't eat anything again until lunch time? That's about 17 hours if you eat lunch at noon. 17 hours without any kind of food in your system?! I know I've done it but when you break it down like that my stomach twinges with pain at the thought.

Another thing that was brought up was the fact that if you eat a full breakfast it can even make you gain weight. Well, they were showing video of people eating full on pancake breakfasts with eggs, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. So, why in the world would anyone think that eating a "full" breakfast would make you fat?! Um maybe because what they are calling a full breakfast is freaking carbo-loading! You can have a fulfilling healthy breakfast that is low in all that fattening stuff as well. Try having a protein loaded smoothie with fruit, protein, and peanut butter or have some oatmeal and juice. It's not imperative that you eat a coma inducing meal for breakfast it's just important that you get some nutrients in your system to help you wake up your body for the day.
