Power

No not the kind you get from being in charge... the kind that heats my home.

What the crap?! So our power bill increased by over $200 and come to find out people all over the Triangle are experiencing the same thing. Was there a rate increase? Nope. Apparently they're blaming this on the two weeks of 20 degree weather we had. Okay I guess I could understand it if my bill jumped up by $100 but not it going from the low hundreds to $368! There's no freaking way! In their response to people all Progress Energy is saying is that you need to keep your thermostat at the lowest setting that is comfortable for you. Guess what? We don't go over 65! EVER! They're talking about how most people keep their temp at around 70 or 75 all day and night when it's that cold and how much harder your heater has to work to keep up, but seriously? When you keep the thermostat lower than normal people already and are forced to bundle up like an Eskimo most nights, why in the world would the power bill be so outrageous??

My boyfriend said we need to check our usage and compare it to previous bills and also look at the amount being charged per KW. I'll investigate it but somehow I think we're still going to have to pay this stupid bill regardless. SO SO Frustrating! Especially when you already have such a limited income!

Update: According to one co-worker who used to work for a utility company $200 is about right for the bill to have jumped up. He claims it's because the heater is working very hard to keep the house heated and it was below 30 degrees pretty much all day. *sigh* not much to argue with there I guess. Not much to do either, suck it up and pay it I guess.
