A Taste of Thai

Jordan and I made another exodus through Raleigh and Wake Forest in yet another attempt to find a place worthy to call home. We only had two appointments and one got canceled because the guy claims to have shown and rented the house all in one day...go figure... and we showed up at another house while the girl was moving out and she showed us around that one. The rest of the day was spent mimicing a peeping tom as we prowled around the outside of houses we might be interested in to see if they were even worth making an appointment for.

At about 1:30 we decided that before our 3:00 we needed to feed our faces. So we went through my lovely coupon book to determine which place we were up for and what was close by. We came to the mutual decision to give "Tast of Thai" on Falls of the Neuse a try. Well after we got there and were seated we realized that the coupon was for a dinner...dang it. Luckily their lunch prices were fairly cheap so we got by okay.

The place had amazing atmosphere, tall booths and cultural decoarations (as to be expected of course), and really nice waiters. Jordan ordered the Som Tum salad, "a papaya salad mixed well with lime, chilli, garlic, peanut and tomato". I got the weekend lunch special, an entire meal for $8.95. My dishes were very interesting, I started with a spring roll (very crispy and tasty!) and when my meal came out it was a large plate and two smaller dishes on a seperate plate, there was rice, Fish with spicy sauce, a pla goong salad (shrimp with lime, chili, green onions and lemon grass), and a Som Tum salad on one plate and in the other two dishes there was something with chicken and lots of vegetables and swiming in something spicy and red in one dish and the other there was green curry with bamboo shoots and pork. Jordan and I tried a little of each others food and while it was all very good I must say I'm glad I didn't have water to drink, my poor mouth was on fire! I know Thai is spicy, I've had it before, but it was soo tasty. And then there was the dessert of rice, beans and coconut milk...I was very proud of myself for trying it and actually liking it. It tasted very sweet and the beans added a bit of texture to the mix..

Overall I highly recoment Taste of Thai to anyone interested in trying out the spicy mixed with the delightful.

I went to this place a few years ago and like it a lot. They even gave me a free sample of a lettuce wrap while I waited for my take-out.
Funny story about this place... It's right near my parents' house and it used to be a different restaurant up until about 5 years ago. When it was first built, I thought for sure that the name of the restaurant was "Taste of That" until my brother corrected my genius error.
