Eclectic
I love music, I find it hard to be sitting somewhere in dead silence...I must have background music. I've never been one to hone in on only one type of music. Throughout my life the people I've come in contact with have introduced me to new types of music that I have added to my list and I can pretty much remember who introduced me to each one.
-Growing up my mom always tuned the radio to oldies. Elvis, The Big Bopper, Tommy James & the Shondells, Simon and Garfunkel, Chubby Checker, and the Shangri-Las. To this day I can sing along with most of those oldies but goodies and I love it.
-My cousin had about 200 country CD's that he gave me when I was a pre-teen and I listened to them religiously. He had been a DJ on a country station for years. My favorite was Garth Brooks.
-I get my love for 80's bands from my older brother. Bands like Kiss, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, and White Snake.
-As a kid I learned to love Opera by mistake. I got a portable radio and couldn't find a station with it so I would sit and scan the stations until one stuck, it just happened to be one that played opera music and my appreciation grew after watching The Phantom of the Opera movie.
-An old baby sitter was in a musical and invited us to come and watch and there I gained an amazing appreciation for musicals. My first ever musical, Oklahoma, is still my absolute favorite.
-My friends in middle school were all into the pop bands like Ace of Base, Hanson, and Aqua.
-High School friends brought on a love of the newer pop bands like Back Street Boys, N'Sync, Brittany Spears, and Christina Aguilera.
-I worked at the Skate Ranch for a while and there I learned to love Techno and all kinds of rap.
-In college my best friend, Alaina, introduced me to bands like Disturbed, System of a Down, and Drowning pool, she also introduced me to Blink 182 and other punk rock bands.
-I've also introduced myself to some great types of music, mostly from watching TV shows that have awesome soundtracks to them... shows like The OC, Gossip Girl, and Greek.
-Most recently the guy I was interested in helped me come to appreciate some intensly beautiful instramental music. I find score music to be quite amazing as well.
There are still many types of music that I have yet to gain an appreciation for but I imagine someone some where will introduce me to some wonderful music that I have yet to gain an appreciation of and I will LOVE it.
