"An Open Enemy is Better Than a False Friend"
...A proverb that seems to span all languages.
I find it horrifyingly interesting the number of people who are fake friends. What in the world makes someone want to be "friends" with someone they severely dislike? If you don't like someone shouldn't you want to stay away from them? Good question.
"Keep your friends close but your enemies closer". Perhaps this is why so many women are two-faced, false friends, because they feel the need to keep tabs on those potential/existing enemies. I think this phrase has now been turned into a new word, often used when talking about heiresses or actresses, Frenemies. What is a Frenemy? Wikipedia describes it as an enemy posing as your friend. Fascinating. Something I've noticed is that women seem to be the only ones participating in such behavior, perhaps it is because men are a tad more sane than women and understand that when you hate someone you leave them the hell alone. I am surrounded by women who seem to be in constant hate of one another and yet they always seem to be around one another. I realize that when you run in the same circles it is not uncommon to end up around someone you dislike at a party or some such activity but you don't have to go out of your way to be nice to this person and you certainly don't have to invite them to your own personal parties. I'm beginning to wonder if this is directly related to some hormone that is inherent only in females.
Sadly enough, I have been known to do such things. I know! What in the world is wrong with me, I bring something up and bash it only to announce that I do it as well. I didn't say I liked it. I am often quite honest with people about how I feel about them, if I don't like you you're sure to know it. The thing is, I think part of the reason I can't be horribly evil to people I don't like is the whole religion thing. Aren't we supposed to be practicing what we preach? (Not that I preach much of anything but you get what I mean I'm sure) If I am a Christian and believe that Christ was kind to everyone, even his enemies, then shouldn't I do the same thing? I think the answer to that is going to be yes. The thing is, you don't have to like someone but at the same time, there is no need to be back stabbing bitch either. So, maybe you should try to remember that whoever it is that you're being a frenemy to, they're a daughter (and perhaps in some cases a son) of God and he loves them, so, you should keep your icky mean thoughts about them inside of your head and not tell anyone else about them. If you feel the need to vent these awful feelings about this person make sure you do so in a manner that wont get back to them and hurt them... If you don't believe in God, well, just do it because Karma can be a bitch if you're not careful.

Very good post.
I can relate to all of it.
I try to be a friend, so that I no longer have that anger/hate/evil feeling toward the other person.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
It's just something that happens... And I'm very much trying to overcome it.
But I definitely think you are a REAL friend - and we need to hang out soon.
wow what happened?! i think the difference is when you do it because you want to be Christ Like or you're doing it for self interest
