Pirates, Lighthouses, Beaches, & Fun!
This past weekend I went to Wilmington with Kelley to hang with Stephanie. Steph is leaving the beach soon and Kelley hadn't been to the beach more than once all summer so, it was for sure time to return. I thoroughly enjoyed the rides down and back and getting to talk to Kelley the whole way. We've known each other for a while and been around one another in groups but have never hung out together, so it was really cool to spend some time getting to know her.
Friday night we did a little shopping, mostly just groceries, and then had dinner at Applebee's (not the very best dinner ever) and then came back to discuss wardrobe, hair and makeup for Saturday's photo shoot. And then CRASH! It was bed time.
Saturday we drove to Dave's place, after getting Stephanie all biker-chicked out, and then out to a church parking lot with the motorcycle where we did the photo shoot. Steph was a real trooper! It was hot as hell and despite being in swimsuits and shorts/dresses the rest of us were sweating bullets so I imagine Steph had to be dying in the outfit we had her in. But the photo's turned out spectacular and I will be posting them asap on my other blog. Then we headed to Southport where we met up with Nate and his kids and rode the Ferry to Bald Head Island. Sadly our lack of preparation left us walking, since all the golf carts were pre-rented. So, we walked over to the lighthouse where they were having the Pirate Weekend events...only to find out it was $7 for each adult and $5 for kids...WTH!? They couldn't have advertised that anywhere? Stephanie and Kelley weren't THAT interested in the pirate stuff, especially since it was obviously meant for kids more than the adults, so they went off to the beach and Nate and I took the kids around. We also found out that once you got in you had to spend MORE money to get tickets for food and games. So we just wandered around a bit, climbed the lighthouse (Kai was too excited about it and booked it to the top only to decide he wanted back down immediately), then sat and listened to a pirate tell stories.
It was hot, it wasn't as fun as we thought and so we decided to go look for real food instead of sticking around much longer. The only thing that was open, without a 5 mile hike in the heat, was a really expensive seafood place called Eb & Flo Steam Bar. Well by the time we got there and figured this out it was nearly dinner so we got everybody together and had a dinner. I enjoyed my crab legs immensely!! Then back to the Ferry and home home home! Steph and Kelley went out to spend time with a mutual friend and some other folks and Nate came over and we went out and got food again... seriously by 10:30 I was starving! And then we spent the rest of the evening just sitting on the couch chatting...it was a pretty great evening.
Sunday was the beach day I'd been hoping for. We went to Wrightsville beach for two hours where I got some sun burn but that will fade into what will probably be my last tan of the summer. Then we went to O'Charley's for lunch and then Kelley and I headed back this way. Overall it was a very fun trip and completely exhausting...I was going to try and watch a movie before bed but ended up passing out and having to wake up and turn it off. The only truly disappointing thing were the pirates, but at least now I know not to go on that weekend ever again.
