Dieter Update: Week 1

Okay so, today is day 8, I started on the 14th at 161.2 lbs, on my loading days I moved up to 166 so I really like to think of that as my starting point because I wasn't losing weight those two days. I am now, on day 8, down to 157.6 lbs. NICE!

My measurements have decreased in very small amounts but it's cool, I've still got 35 more days to go.
Waist: -3/4"
Hips: -3/4"
Bust: -1/2"
Left Thigh: -2" (this one shocked the hell outta me)
Right Thigh: -1/2"
Left Arm: - 1/4"
Right Arm: -1/4"

Well, at least I lost evenly in my left and right arm LOL. I have no idea where the two inch loss in my left leg came from...unless I measured wrong the first time but I did it twice. Anyway, I'm happy with all the changes thus far even though I can't physically see them yet. I've also been keeping up with my workout with a few minor changes. I've gone down to a slightly lighter weight than I was using before I started the diet and it's still having the same effect, I feel great every day before I start work.

So, I made the mistake of reading health articles and forums online in an effort to find someone that has had long term success with this diet. I wanted to find out how someone is doing that's been off it for 5 or more years... instead I found all kinds of articles preaching of how the HCG Diet is very dangerous because any diet that requires you to eat so few calories is dangerous. They've cited study after study that says HCG has not been proven to have any effect during a diet. Hmmm.. well my problem with that is the hundreds of people on the HCG message boards that have lost weight and are still losing weight using it in conjunction with Dr. Simeon's protocol and very specific diet, not to mention I know someone personally. And the fact that these people don't look unhealthy and they claim to not feel hungry after about the first week or so of adjusting to the diet does a lot to persuade me that I'm still okay.

Several articles stated that the HCG is a very dangerous placebo, because anyone can lose weight with a Very Low Calorie Diet even without the injections or drops because your body is going to eat up your muscle...the HCG doesn't do anything. I find that odd since the claim of the diet is that HCG blocks your body from eating your muscle and causes it to chomp down on your fat stores and by eating the VLCD you're not providing your body with any new fat so it's going to use all that crap that's sitting around your waist and thighs and butt as fuel. And there's people who have worked out while using it, myself included, and I don't feel like my muscle is going anywhere but up. I don't feel weak and like I can't support myself and I don't feel super tired all the time. So what's the deal?

I'm curious now, I want to go and find these actual Scientific Studies on HCG as a diet aid and read them. I want to know if they followed the protocol to the letter and if they used a placebo as well as hcg on these people. I want to know what their findings were other than the conclusion that HCG does nothing in conjunction with a diet. I swear I should have gotten my degree and become a research assistant, I don't know that many people who get a thrill out of doing all kinds of background checks and research on things. Anyway, my overall conclusion is, I know someone who has used the diet and she was comfortable enough with it to share it with other people, she looks great, doesn't seem unhealthy at all if you ask me, and so if she's willing to share her success with her friends (myself included) I'm willing to continue on this journey and see where it takes me.
