Journaling
The other night I came home and Jordan had a gigantic stack of journals surrounding her on the couch. She began to tell me that during a talk at church she was reminded how much she needed to work on her journaling skills and then she proceeded to tell me what each journal was for...1 from her mission, 2 every day journals, 2 church/scripture quote journals, and a few more. Now she's creating journals for future family activities, family history, travels, etc.
All her enthusiasm for journals reminded me of how remiss I've been in my own journaling. I have a journal that I started in college a couple different times and still there's enough that I could probably write in it for a full year. I recently started keeping a "journal" of my HCG experiences as I'm going along. It's a very small 3.5x5 spiral notebook and I've just been keeping track of weight and measurements as well as what I'm eating and how I'm feeling both emotionally and just in general. As I wrote in it today I was reminded again that I really need to be keeping a real journal and then my thoughts said "huh..but isn't a blog the same as a journal?" No no. Not quite.
In my blog I sometimes edge over to emotional stuff and what's going on in my life but I try to keep a lot of really personal things off here. I really should start keeping a real journal where I can keep all kinds of thoughts, conversations that I want to remember, and day to day silliness that I don't ever want to forget about. I've also decided to keep a travel journal. I don't travel the world but I do have random adventures to different places around here and hopefully I'll be able to travel farther one day soon...but I really want to keep track of where I go, when I go, and how I feel while I'm there. I think I'm also going to start keeping a scripture study journal :-) and use it to write down my thoughts while I'm studying and while I'm in church or listening to a conference. Ah, another goal that I need to add to my calendar! I think I need to go shopping and buy some more notebooks to use as journals :-) HAHA.
