Pollenated
I love spring and fall, they are the seasons that help me get through the other two. The only problem is... fall sets you up for the freezing cold winter and spring, aaahhh spring, it gives you pollen and allergies.
This year has been a banner year for the lovely yellow dust, I've seen it covering every car on the street, it sticks on the grass and the water, heck the other day when the wind blew I could see a giant cloud of it move from tree to tree. The other day at work I went outside with my friend who smokes just to stand in the sunshine for a bit and noticed that the entire front porch was covered in yellow dust, it looked like someone had ground up a giant vat of yellow chalk and dumped it out there. When we walked back in I noticed yellow shoe prints on the carpet. At the park last Sunday I noticed a great deal of yellow in the water, no no some kid didn't lose his liquid in the lake, it was pollen. See in the pictures below how it's all pooled around the edges? And then in the one of the turtles baking in the sun.. You might be able to click on it and make it bigger..you can see yellow particles floating on top of the water there too! It's insane!
I was complaining about all this yellow crap to my friend Jericho the other day and I said something to the effect that I guess it's good because it keeps us in plants. If we didn't have all the pollen we wouldn't have more flowers and trees and such next year. Well Jericho, and his infinite knowledge of these Perennial Woody Plants, informed me that really we only have the trees to blame for all the airborne pollen. See flowers prosper better if a bee or bug or bird or whatever transfers pollen from plant to plant but trees, oooh trees! They are the guilty subjects. Apparently trees are pollinated by the wind blowing their pollen around. He also used the word tree sperm...wow... I can't help but giggle at that lol.
So when you look out at your car or deck and see all the lovely yellow powder each spring, please remember it's a good thing! The trees are reproducing. :-)
