I love NC
I was reading my friend Tim's blog about NC's Trifecta of Glory and I couldn't help but laugh at all the silly names NC has for some of it's cities. Since I work for the NCDOT I have unlimited resources for finding such things as every city (that has a post office) and what county it resides in. Here is my list of NC Cities (and 2 towns) linked to their corresponding map, that make me chuckle:
Advance
Alliance
Bat Cave
Bath
Belvidere
Beulaville
Boomer
Brasstown
Bunnlevel
Butner
Cashiers(pronounced without the i)
Cerro Gordo
Climax
Coats
Coinjock
Comfort
Conetoe
Cranberry
Efland (I always thought it was ELfland)
Elkin
Farmville
Gumberry
Hobgood
Hookerton
Horse Shoe
Kill Devil Hills
Kitty Hawk
Marble
Micro
Middlesex
Nags Head
Nebo
Pinnacle
Prospect Hill
Salter Path
Tuxedo
Zirconia
and the 2 towns:
Horneytown
Lizard Lick
Sorry about the long list but for some unknown reason Blogger doesn't like for you to put spaces between things...go figure. Anyhow, some of these names may not be all that funny to you but I found them to be funny enough to share. I just gotta share my love for my State :-)

I have always gotten a chuckle out of Mabane. At first glance you'd think it was Ma-BANE or something. But no, ask the locals, it's pernounced more like Meh-bin. How is that possible?!
It's like cherryville... it's pronounced CHERVL and Farmville is Farmvl I don't get it. LOL it's all about the locals I guess.
