The Call of the Great Outdoors
I'm starting to get the itch. And it's beginning to cause a rash. I am just dying here with the desire to go hiking. I really really miss being in the mountains where hiking was something I could do on a daily basis. I keep checking Sierra Trading post's website for good deals on hiking boots and then just craving the mountains.
I just keep going over and over it... my favorite place to hike was Paradise Falls in Cullowhee. The only time I've not enjoyed it was after the hurricane in 2004 dumped trash and felled trees all over the place. It was sad to me to see one of my favorite places basically destroyed. The last time I went it looked as though someone had cleaned it all up a bit and it was returned to its former glory.
So in order to sate this desire I have for hiking I've decided that I will be making a pilgrimage home this summer. Obviously June is out of the picture because of all the conferences I have going on but in either July or August I will be going on a short trip. I've got to save up some cash because it's going to cost a bit to get out there and back but I'm going to do it. I just can't find the words to describe the incredibly strong desire I have to be back out in the open wilderness. There will be loads of pictures when I get back and I just can't wait! Maybe I'll warm up by going to Umstead Park or one of the other parks around here, it wont be the same but it would be nice to give it a shot.
