Shapes

Apparently every woman should fall into one of the following 4 categories:

Straight Silhouette/boyish figure
Pear Shape/Rounder on bottom
Athletic Build/broad shoulders, narrow hips
Curvy Figure/ hourglass shape

I say this because every magazine that discusses dressing for your body shape only addresses these four categories. But what about women who are round? Where do they fall? I want to be able to dress for my shape as well but the thing is they don't offer a "dress for your shape" for women that have a larger midsection. Why is this? I find it odd considering more women in the US have a paunchy belly than have most other shapes. The thing is, this shape doesn't fall into any of the other categories. When you read, Curvy Figure, you think oh ladies with round shape until you realize they mean large on top and bottom but there's an inward curve at the waist. Dang it. Granted we should be working towards getting rid of that middle area that prevents us from falling into one of the four pre-arranged categories (because we should all fit into SOME category, right?) but what do we wear in the meantime?

I think this issue should be addressed with fashion magazines the world over. "What do women with a completely rounded figure wear?" Perhaps I will write to one of these fashion mags. Maybe I will ask them to please explain to me the following:

1)Why are ALL body types not discussed? Because lots of women don't fall into one of the four categories.
2)Why do we put people in categories in the first place? Aren't we supposed to be teaching women that they're unique individuals and not mushing them into one category or another so that when they don't fit into ONE category they feel lost?
3) Where are the bathing suits for women with a stomach? In all these magazines I never see a single bathing suit that would look good on a woman that wears sizes 12-20 and has a DD cup size. Why is that? Do they not deserve to be addressed as well?

Ah society and it's fashion norms. Aint it great?! Making women everywhere question their figure since the beginning of time.

Oh honey, how I understand! Here are a couple of dress places that I've found that actually address more differences in body shape as well as have really cute clothes (and modest):

www.shabbyapple.com (this one has a little quiz to take and shows you what dresses will be best for your body type)
