Medical Transcription
I am going to be taking a Medical Transcription training class via Wake County Public School's Lifelong Learning program. I love my dad for being so helpful...he's going to be helping me pay for it. Originally the class was going to be 2 days classroom and 1 day home experience Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:30-9:30 and it was going to cost $567. That is a bit out of my grasp and dad was hoping I could get the "scholarship" they had talked about in the program booklet but I don't qualify. Well this morning I got a call from the lady in charge of it and she wanted me to know that they were going to cut the cost to $360 and only do the class one day a week from 7-9:30 and the other two days you would just do work from home. That is so much better. So my dad is going to cut me a check for the cost and I'm going to apply for the class and starting May 27th I will be going to Athens High School at 7pm every Wednesday until July 28th.
My reason for wanting to take this class is I really need a second job. I hate retail of any kind, unless I'm shopping and then I'm all for it, but when I'm the one having to deal with the stupid people all day I just can't handle it. Additionally, I'm really bad at saving money and I pretty much just live from paycheck to paycheck, which is really an awful idea for any time in your life but right now where anyone and everyone could possibly lose their job at any moment, I need savings. So Medical Transcription is something I can do from home and it's always something that people will need because it's in the medical field.
My co-worker suggested that I take classes in Phlebotomy when I told her about the MT course. She even went online to Wake Tech and looked it up for me. $368 tuition and it's only 16 weeks and two classes (plus a Psych class but I've already taken it so I'm hoping they'll transfer the credit from Western). The only downfall is that the classes are only offered during the day at Wake Tech...BOO! Major letdown. So I went online and looked up Johnston Community College and voila! they offer the exact same course at night. So I'm seriously considering applying. It wouldn't start until the fall and by then I'd be done with the MT class and could take the Phlebotomy course at JCC. I'm seriously considering it, I'd really love to have options as far as jobs go.
With all this reviewing of certificate classes that I can take, I got really excited and started looking at other classes offered, mostly online. I think I'd really like to get certified with a bunch of these different programs...it would be really cool to learn something new each time AND it would be really great to have lots of options for jobs, that way if one fell through I'd be certified to do 50 others. (okay so 50 is a bit of an exaggeration but still you get the picture). I'm kind of excited for this new outlook.
