The New Mommy Mobiles

I think it's great that the up and coming generation of mothers has no desire to drive mini-vans. And so the car manufacturers of the world unite to create a whole new generation of mommy mobiles. The standard minivans and station wagons of the world have become something oh so new and shiny but, to me, they still have that soccer mom shine.

With Nissan you get the Armada, Pathfinder, and Murano.

Chevy offers up the Tahoe, Suburban, Equinox, and the Traverse

Cadillac doles out the Escalade and the SRX Crossover

Buick has the Enclave

GMC throws out the Yukon, Acadia, and Terrain

Toyota dishes out the Highlander, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser

Mazda comes to the table with the CX series vehicles and the Tribute

Dodge hands you the the Nitro and the Journey

and I'm sure there are a TON of others out there. I'm sure you've noticed that 75% of these vehicles are SUV's and the other 25% are what car companies have termed "crossover" vehicles. Ah the crossover...the definition is a cross between two vehicles...it seems to me most of these are a cross between the minivan and the Station Wagon. So now the rugged body of the SUV has been turned into the family car... But really that's not too new either because if you check out the old Suburbans and Bronco's you'll find a whole generation of family cars in them.

I personally drive an SUV...the Nissan Xterra...not quite the family style car but in a pinch it could do. I don't drive it because I'm a mom that needs to feel cool, I've had it since college, I drive it because it's super at hauling things, it was a good deal at the time, and I can see over most of you in your tiny cars on the road. I love the safe feeling of driving an SUV, something built for rugged off-roading use. But watch out, because if I do become a mom I may decide to trade my SUV for a mommy mobile.
