Hawaii Five-O
As a youth I became an avid fan of an old TV show...Hawaii Five-O. It would come on at noon during the summer and when I woke up it was time for lunch and to sit down in front of the TV with Steve McGarrett and Dan-o and watch them "book" the bad guys. This show was one of my all time favorites for years and when I found out they were releasing the Seasons on DVD I was pumped. So far I only have one season but I'm working on the rest...these things aren't cheap ya know.
I also found out recently that CBS is doing a remake of the show. I was a little excited because I'm a fan of Alex O'Loughlin from Moonlight and the show was a favorite of mine growing up. I was also skeptical as any original show fan might be when someone says they're going to re-do something that was fabulous to begin with. But I figured I'll give it a shot. Sadly the shows already got one mark on the negative side...Chin Ho Kelly's cousin Kono in the original show was a big Hawaiian dude. In the new show Kono has become Kona...a slender Asian woman. *sigh* I realize that they want to make the show more versatile by adding female characters that weren't there before but seriously??
Here's a look at the Main characters from the shows...Old and then New.
Steve McGarrett- Jack Lord and now Alex O'Loughlin
Personally I think the dude from CSI Miami would have been a better choice....
Tell me he doesn't have the McGarrett Look!
DanO- James MacArthur now Scott Caan
The resemblance isn't so bad but I think MacArthur had more of that baby faced freshness going on that kinda added a "cool kid" look to the show.
Chin Ho Kelly-Kam Fong and now Daniel Dae Kim
I don't really have a problem with this match-up. I understand they want a fresh "younger" cast than the original show had. I'm cool with that for the most part.
And finally...
Kono- Zulu and now Kona- Grace Park
Yeah, as you can tell BIG, HUGE, difference between the two. I'm just having a hard time being okay with this one. But hey, I'm always willing to give a new show a chance. So I'll hold my breath and jump on in and pray they do the original as much justice as it deserves.
