Failing In Love
Why is it people seem to think that everyone should fall in love at the same time?
So, I proudly admit that I am hooked on One Tree Hill and while watching last night's episode one of the characters declares his love for another who has not been in love in a long time and because of that she doesn't respond how he thinks she should. The guy then gets upset that he's in love with her right that very second and insists that she should feel the same.
Why?
A one sided relationship isn't any fun but if you fall in love at different times during said relationship why in the world should that be a problem. I mean okay, I've seen people break up because they just didn't see the relationship going where the other person saw it (ahem...my ex claims that's why we just broke up...the truth was he was in love with his ex but let's not start that again) but I have also seen relationships that have ended that way rework themselves. So, if you're in love and your partner is not why would you leave them or say your partner is the one in love and you're the one not reciprocating...again, why leave?
If you've been in a 10 year relationship and one of you has been in love for 5 years and 5 years later the other is still not in love then YEAH I can totally see a need for some moving on. But if you've just started dating and you're not reciprocating I think that's perfectly okay. Two even three months into a relationship...one person is bound to feel stronger than the other. So those of you in this kind of relationship, don't give up! Wait for them. Or well if you're the one not in love and the other is...hang in there.
I guess I should say though, if you don't see yourself ever falling for this person and you don't have strong feelings for them then yeah break it off. But if you have strong feelings in your heart and you think that one day you might love them as much as they love you OR if you see that the person hasn't fallen in love with you yet but is hanging in there....don't let go. I don't want you to think that I believe people should make themselves fall in love with someone because that would suck; I just think that people give up too quickly if things don't go the way they want them to immediately.
