Keepsakes
In going through my old stuff and throwing things out (worlds biggest pack rat here...okay not the biggest I do throw SOME stuff out), I've re-discovered some old clothes. Now my natural instinct is to keep them because I want to be able to wear them again but not this time...I've been throwing everything I used to wear in High School into a plastic bag to be given away or sold, with a few exceptions.
See, when I was younger I used to want to go through my mom's stuff and see what kind of
clothes she used to wear but sadly she'd gotten rid of it all thinking that her own kids wouldn't want to wear any of that stuff ever. Boy was she wrong! I was able to inherit one dress from my mother that she wore to her first LDS formal event with my dad. I love that dress because it's my mom's and it's old. I wore it for my 25th Birthday party to eat at the Cheesecake Factory and play golf. Because it's so loose it fits my pudgy body shape better than any of the other, very few, items my mother had. She also had a pair of shoes, that I think are no longer around, a velvet suit, a few suit jackets, one or two skirts and like two tops. That's it and most of it was stuff I couldn't really wear.
So, for posterity's sake (should I ever change my mind and decide that I actually DO want to add another person like me into this world) I have decided to keep some of my most interesting clothes. I have a pair of jeans that my mother took the seams out of the sides and added flying pig inserts and stuck a patch over the torn knee...those can never be worn again as the butt now has a very large hole across it. I also have one pair of amazing platform sneakers that I thought I'd gotten rid of and am extremely happy that I still have. I'm sure there are a few pairs of shoes that I can still wear that will one day go into my box of keepsakes as well. There's a few dresses (the ones my mother made for sure) and skirts and an amazing pair of neon multi-colored pants and my blue pleather pants and coat that I loved wearing for the short time I could fit in them. I have yet to go through everything but I really am excited about the things that I have. And who knows, maybe my dream of some day being able to wear these things again may come true!
