Sad World
I'm a member of a "blog-esque" website called livejournal, where you can create and join different communities relating to different interests you have. I originally joined so that I could keep up with and discuss fashion on the television show Veronica Mars and gradually, like all other Internet addictions (facebook anyone?) I started joining more communities and even created one of my own. One of the communities that I'm a member of is an LDS community. Today one of the members posted the following:
I Got This In My Inbox Today- All you had to say was "pray" for me to know I'm not dealing with a rational person. Don't bother to respond. I have a firm delete mail from religionists policy.
Why am I not rational for praying? And what is "Religionists" policy?
Apparently this person responded to an email about hating our soldiers by saying that she would always pray for our soldiers.
To me it is incredibly sad the number of tiny minded people that believe just because you have a religious affiliation you have nothing intelligent to say. I know many MANY intelligent men and women in our church that could give these so called "intellectuals" a run for their money. I don't understand something... why is it we're expected to accept homosexuality and abortion (etc, etc) but they can't accept something as simple as another person's religion? I'm not asking anyone to believe in God just because I do, I understand that not everyone feels that there is a greater purpose to everything we do, but I can't understand why they can't accept that certain people have a belief in something greater and that all the beauty we see around us had to be created by Someone's hand? Why is that hard to accept? If it is not too much to ask for me to accept that you're a man and you want to marry a man, why then is it too much for you to accept that I am a Mormon and I believe in God?
