Lemming

For those of you who don't get the pop culture reference in the title (and you'd be surprised how many people don't), a Lemming is a creature that is a follower by nature. There used to be this game and you were the front lemming and had to prevent all the other lemmings from walking off a cliff. This term has often been used to describe people that just follow along blindly, as well as sheep and the more obvious term followers. Anyhow, have I become one such creature? Perhaps.

On my way to work in the AM I seem to have become so accustomed to the driving of the same route every day that I zone out. I realized today that I wasn't really paying much attention to where I was going at all. I watched the car in front of me and when they moved so did I. I was stopped at a light and spaced out on some random wishes of being back in my bed when the car in front of me started to move, without much thought or even looking I proceeded to follow. I did this about three more times on the way to work before realizing that I should probably be looking at the lights for myself and not following blindly behind the other cars. Maybe that sounds dumb to some of you all but I really got to thinking about it and there are a lot of people that run red lights because they don't feel like waiting for the change. So what if one of these cars I was following had decided they didn't want to wait and I didn't even bother to look at the light, just because they made it safely through doesn't mean I will.

Have I been doing this more often than when I'm behind the wheel? Do I go through my life blindly following what others suggest? I hope not. I don't think so, but I didn't realize the car thing until I'd been doing it for a while either so maybe I am. Maybe YOU are. We should all open our eyes and go through life paying attention to where we are going and hopefully then we'll get more out of the life we're living.

It was just one truly odd experience for me.

I wrote a blog that involved crackers not too long ago and I finally got a chance to try the Grilled Cheese crackers... I must say: I am in love. :-D
