Traffic Violations Part 2
See, I knew this was going to be a multi-part kinda thing. I have road rage so you're bound to read a lot about my angry exploits. Seriously though here's a few things to think about the next time you're driving.
Merging. Okay people, merging doesn't require a lot of brain power, or it shouldn't anyhow.
There's no need to slow down to merge you just do it. It's the exact same thing as changing lanes, just your lane ends if you don't move over soon. If you don't know how to merge properly, try reading these tips: DMV.Org. There are two spots on the way to work that I can't stand because the traffic S L O W S to a stop. Coming down 264 and merging onto the beltline is the first. Luckily here there is an extra lane that you can use to bypass all the morons that don't know what they're doing. Then there's the Capital Blvd area on the beltline. I HATE that spot more than any other because it's not just in the morning or during rush hour, it's all freaking day long. Traffic snarls and piles up in this one location all day every day because people are so stupid.
This is not just a one sided problem either. If the people that are in the lanes other people are trying to merge into would just move over or slow enough to let them in, traffic would just keep right on plugging along without all these problems! When I have to be in the right lane and know that merging traffic is coming up, I like to leave enough space between me and the car in front of me that someone could whip right in there with no trouble at all. Now if only everyone would do this a lot of traffic jams would probably ease up. But no the world is full of self obsorbed A-holes (I'm trying to work on the language). All people care about is themselves and put them behind the wheel of a thousand or so pounds of metal and fiberglass and all of a sudden you've got millions of accidents just waiting to happen.
If we'd all just be more concious of other people all the time the world would really be a better place... but if we can't do that then at least try to be more concious of the other cars on the road and think about how you'd feel if you were the one in that situation. It really helps if you have a bit of perspective. You don't want to be cutoff, don't do it yourself, you don't want people blocking you from merging, don't do it, I could go on listing for hours other things that if you don't want happening to you you shouldn't do to other people. So, I hope you're all a little more driver savvy after reading this lovely blog post.
