My Movie Addiction
Over the last few months every time I get paid I have to buy movies. I have this list of movies that I've written down and it's my goal to own all of them. The thing is, the list grows faster than I can buy. I don't just buy movies as they come out, I get them on the cheap. Usually the only time I will buy a movie is if it's on the 2 for $10 rack at Wal-mart, 3 or 4 for $20 at Blockbuster, etc... in other words I like to buy them when I can get twice the amount of movies for the same price I'd pay if I bought it new.
This method began while I was in college because the video rental store I always went to sold their previously viewed movies and it was usually something like buy two get two free or buy three get one free. I acquired a good many of my movies in this manner. When I finally moved home and found that the nearest one of these video stores was in Wendell, I was bummed. I realized after a few months that some times Wal-mart would have some really good movies for about $7.99 and then they got this bin that was 2 for $10. Sometimes it's really hard to find even one good movie in there, let alone 2, but the harder you look the more likely you are to find more and more really great movies... they're just buried under all the crap. Well, now Blockbuster has started selling their previously viewed items and while it's not as cheap and the selection is quite slim, I've gotten a few newer movies at a much cheaper price. This past weekend I went with my sister to the mall in Cary and we stopped by Suncoast on the way out... they were having one of these previously viewed sales and I got 3 for $20 and an additional two that weren't previously viewed, they were just on sale. Slowly I'm starting to realize that my movie collection is beginning to resemble my book collection. I have at least one movie I've never even watched and a few that I've seen only once, just as with my book collection there are actually tons of books that I own that the binding has never been cracked. I seem to have this reoccurring problem... I spend money on something because I see it and I want it and heck, it's got a nice price tag on it, and then it takes me a while to even watch/read it. I amaze myself at the amount of money I spend on things that I could most likely do without.
I need to go to a shopaholics anonymous meeting... anyone know where one of these takes place?
