Christmas Cookies

I was dying to make frosted cookies for Halloween but alas, I waited too long to start making my treats and ran out of time to do cookies so people just had cookie cutter cut-out sugar cookies with nothing on them. For this Holiday I decided I was going to get this done! I was so pumped you wouldn't believe it! On Friday night Linda and I made the sugar cookies in all sorts of fun Christmas shapes with some awesome cookie cutters I got on clearance from Michael's for $2.99! I also borrowed a few from my mother's stash of old school cookie cutters. Then I tried to resist eating them all until Saturday so we could decorate them with Royal Frosting.
On the Saturday before Christmas, I invited Emily and Linda over to have a cookie decorating party and it was FUN! We made the Royal Frosting from a recipe I found at Halloween on the Glorious Treats Blog. I'm sure you can find this recipe in TONS of places but I liked the way her cookies turned out so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Ours looked nothing like hers but they still turned out beautifully! We didn't use a thinned frosting instead we just decided to use all the same consistency and it took us a while to get it thinned down enough to be used in the piping bags but we made it! And then we added food color gel that Linda's mom had but I think next time we will for sure use color paste instead because the colors come out much closer to what you want. We decided on primary colors and white and black and put them all in bags and sat them in cups lined with a wet paper towel to keep them 1-from drying out and 2-from getting all over our work space. And then we sat down with tin foil and our cookies and got to work!

Emily did such a great job right off the bat! That girl has talent. Linda and I took a bit longer to acclimate ourselves to the frosting but the most cookies we did the better we got at it. I want so badly to buy my own decorating kit (I used a lot of things from my mom) and to do Holiday cookies for EVERY holiday! This was by far one of the most fun things I've gotten to do! And without further adieu...our cookie designs :-)
