Musical Meaning

We all do it. We listen to songs and sing along and in our minds we're thinking, dang this song so perfectly describes me/how I feel/the person I love/my life.
How is it possible that the person writing the lyrics for these songs knows us so well? Because while we'd all like to think that we're special and different (and you may very well be) we all have the same core basic instincts, feelings, and emotions. We all feel pain at being dumped, joy at new love, devastation at loss, hornyness, varying levels of sexual frustration, desperation, excitement, etc etc and you get the idea.
Some people are just better than others at putting those emotions into something a bit more. And so those people with that fabulous musical talent sing what you're feeling and you can't help but feel a certain connection to the song.

While I have long touted my dislike for country music there are two songs that I feel describe me a little too well:
Garth Brooks: She's Every Woman
Andy Griggs: She's More

Of course there's the love songs you hear that make you think of the person that makes your heart skip a beat whenever they're near:
Dashboard Confessional: Stolen
Safetysuit: Anywhere But Here
Acceptance: So Contagious
Finely Quaye & Beth Orton: Dice

And who can forget the songs for your broken hearted self:
Lee Ann Womack: Why They Call it Fallin'
Ben Folds Five: Song for the Dumped
Poison: Every Rose Has it's Thorn
Drowning Pool: Tear Away

Lost someone you love:
Blue October: Congratulations
U2: With or Without You

Ahhh the single life:
Bonnie Tyler: Holding out for Hero

Okay so you get what I mean. Those are a few of the songs that strike a chord (if you will) with my brain. It's amazing how much music can be a part of your life if you let it. Not only do we hear a song and relate it to ourselves or some aspect of our lives, but there's memories associated with songs. I know whenever I hear "Video Killed the Radio Star" I will forever remember Michelle and I headbanging in the gym in high school to an army band, whenever I hear the song "Anthem pt.2" I will remember being in the car with Alaina. And when I hear "The Middle" no matter where I am or who I am with my mind flits back to Matt and I wonder how he is doing. Ah and then there's "We Are Family" and Amber's wedding...two perfectly matched items lol.
I guess I wanted to share a little bit of why I love music so much with the world at large. It's not just tunes and words to me, songs make up memories and life changing moments.

Feel free to share with me some of your favorite songs and memories that come with them.
