Bring on the Rain

I can safely say that no this post is not about my desire for there to be rain. More it's about my desire to understand the fashion trend that is rain boots.

Whatever happened to wearing rain boots in, well, the rain? It seems like all winter no matter where I go I see someone traipsing around in their rubber boots. In restaurants, at the mall, at work, at a rock show... why in the world has the rubber boot become a fashion must?

Let's examine the rain boot. The sole is usually a hard rubber with good tread to keep you from falling on your bum whilst prancing around in wet weather. The upper part of the boot is made with a more pliable rubber and used to just come in solid colors, I always wanted a pair of red rain boots as a kid. These boots no longer just come in solid colors, they now have cute little patterns on them, but the fun doesn't stop there they also make them with a cute furry cuff across the top. But why? Who in their warped mind came up with wearing rain boots on the non-rainy days? I can't seem to find where this trend began but it seems the runways are to blame.

I'd love to know which designer started this, so if you know, feel free to fill me in. It would seem that we have oh so many odd fashion statements to blame on these designers. One day the world will learn, just because some skinny model on the catwalk is wearing it doesn't mean you should.

Personally, I'll stick to my leather boots.
