In looking for a job do you take the big leap and call a place you're interested in working for and ask them if they have any openings? Or, do you just show up on their doorstep and ask them for a job that way?

Either way, what the heck do you even say?

Pitbull Ariel. That's what you gotta be. As for what to say... well, sales training would help =) But since you don't really have that, you just have to be direct and ask for what you want. And if you get a no, find out why, ask when an opening might be available. Ask what their looking for. Ask if you can check back. Ask for a contact person. Ask questions. People don't get what they want most of the time because they don't ask. But if you plan on being a self-employed person, you have to learn to be direct and ASK. Take it from someone who knows. I married self-employed and it's hard as crap to establish yourself if you aren't aggressive. The most successful self-employed people are those that aren't afraid to feel like an idiot.

I think that is excellent advice and I'm going to have to go for it, dive right in and take my chances. What's the worst they can say? No, right? LOL :-) And I'm pretty good at the whole feeling like an idiot side of things so I should be okay LOL. Thanks!

Well they can't hang up on you if you just show up. And if you do your research and know about the company, then you know you'll have something to talk about.
