Resolutions, Goals, Objectives, Dreams...
Whatever you call yours, they're an important part of life.
If we don't set goals for our lives we are doing nothing more than stagnating. What do you know about stagnant water? It is a breeding grounds for mosquitoes, bacteria and parasites. It is unsafe to drink because of all the things growing and reproducing in that water..it just sits there becoming undrinkable and allowing for production of diseases.
Think of your life as water, you have the option to be a river or ocean or a giant pool of stagnant water, which do you choose? I choose the ocean. I want to grow and change and expand my existence! Humans do this by setting and achieving goals. It is best if we are constantly setting goals, as you move towards achieving your goals you set new goals. The easiest way to reach your HUGE goals is to start off with smaller, easier to reach goals that lead up to the bigger ones. And instead of dumping a whole HUGE set of resolutions in your lap at the beginning of each year, work on all your smaller goals throughout each year and set yourself a time frame to make it to the larger ones.
Here are some examples for my monthly goals:
1. Go to church on Sunday.
2. Read once a day.
3. Put more effort into doing a better job with work
4. Wake up early each day
5. Spend 20-30 minutes each day being physically active.
So, those are my smaller, easier to reach goals. Here are what they are leading up to:
1. Get a Patriarchal Blessing (This has been a long term goal of mine for a while...if you don't know what that is click the link)
2. Read the Bible & Book of Mormon from cover to cover at least once each.
3. Open my own company
4. Get on a more permanent and healthy sleep schedule
5. Become a Turbo Kick Instructor (This is a goal I intend to reach by June).
So you see, it is very important to have a longer term, larger goal BUT tossing it out there without setting smaller, easier to achieve goals in addition, makes it more daunting and difficult to reach. Another very important thing for goals is to put them in writing and then stick them in a place where you can see them daily, to remind you of when you're working on them and when you're not. So don't just say it, write it down and make sure you can see it every day! Sharing your goals with your friends and family is an excellent idea as well, because motivation from others definitely helps keep you on the right path.
Remember, to prevent yourself from becoming that grody stagnant water... set goals, work on them, share them and grow.

I'm a pretty firm believer that it's impossible to be stagnate. You're either moving forward or you're moving back. Here's to always moving forward!
Dude... did I just put a verb where a noun should be? What kind of writer am I? Sheesh. Stagnant.
The Bible? Really? Have you ever tried reading the Old Testament? Go with the New Testament. MUCH easier to digest.
touché Rachel! That is very true I guess my analogy needs some work :)
HAHA Kelley, well I want to be able to read it all from cover to cover, not necessarily in a year or anything, I'm not really giving myself a time frame there just want to do it before I die haha.
