Weight Loss and A Pyramid
So I have this friend who has become a salesman in one of the fab pyramid schemes that seems to keep croping up around our country. ALL he ever talks about is how wonderful this product is and how you should buy this product and try the challenge and you wont regret it. It's actually annoying to the point that I have limited how many of his posts show up on my Facebook newsfeed. He has been trying for several months now to get me to join in this life changing sales experience. Now, I am not one who gets involved in these selling schemes so readily. My recent involvement with MaryKay aside (and I'll go into details on this later) I just don't see myself as a salesman.
First, WHAT is this life changing product and why am I so against it?
Body by Vi is the product. What is it? It's a "weight loss" shake.
Well now, Ariel who are you to complain about a weight loss program? We all know that you have gone to the extent of using HCG to lose weight! Why yes I have! (back to this in a moment) Here's my problem with Body by Vi... if you need perky happy salesmen to pump up your product to the public, if they are making big money to tell you that it's good for you and will help you lose weight, then it's probably not worth spending my hard earned money on and it probably isn't all that good for you or they wouldn't have to use so much hype to sell it. If a Doctor can't honestly tell me that this is a product that will aid in weight loss, then I don't want it. If joe schmo, who is getting commission off promoting and selling this product, and all of joe's friends who are also making a commission off this are the only people telling me how wonderful it is...why am I going to believe them?
I hope that argument makes sense.
Have I used HCG to lose weight? Absolutely! Why do I feel that this is better than these shakes that my friend is selling? Because you can get HCG from a Doctor. A trained medical professional has prescribed this method of weight loss to friends in my life and I know for a fact that done under the proper conditions and followed up with the proper re-introduction of a healthy diet and exercise, this is a good method of weight loss for people who have struggled with it for years. Not to mention there aren't people going to big "pump you up" meetings and being taught how to best promote HCG to the public and no one is making money getting me to purchase a lifelong supply of what is essentially an over priced Slimfast shake you mix at home. I also know that, like any other method of weight loss, if you go right back to eating an unhealthy diet you're just going to gain everything back...this is something I've learned from my own personal experience. I also don't promote anyone to follow the same strict diet plan that I chose to use. I highly recommend that you workout and eat healthy before taking such extreme measures. I also recommend visiting a Bariatric Physician if you struggle heavily with weight loss and talk to them about the best plan, they are, after all, trained professionals.
On to my involvement with MaryKay. The great thing about beauty products is that they are exactly what you say they are and do exactly what they claim to do. Eye shadow adds pretty colors to your lids, lipstick gives you pretty red/pink/fushia lips and lotion makes your skin feel soft and prevents cracking. Most women use these products on the reg and unlike this Visalus company, MaryKay has been alive and kicking for YEARS! Beauty products are something I can believe in, something I use myself (albeit not on a daily basis) and something I don't mind asking my friends if they would be interested in purchasing. A drink mix that claims to help you lose weight fast and prevent you from becoming hungry is not something I can believe in. It's not something I would ever use myself and it's not something I would ever ask my friends to use. I think your health is not something, if you're smart, that you will lay down in the hands of some guy or gal who is part of a pyramid scheme where if they sell a certain amount of product they're going to get free product and make a commission off it.
This isn't even delving into the research I've done on the products ingredients and how it can be harmful to your health. Let's just say I have long used Whey Protein after workouts instead of Soy because of health issues Soy Protein can cause. Do your own research, don't just listen to somebody out there trying to make a profit. That guy certainly doesn't have your best health interests at heart! He's got is wallet in mind.
I do want to state here and now, this is my OPINION! I am not a trained medical professional and I never have claimed to be any kind of professional in any area that has to do with health. I just know what I think and how I feel. Take my opinion with a grain of salt but just remember it's YOUR health and you should always consult a physician before beginning any weight loss regimen!

I hate it when people are super pushy about things they sell- even if it isn't multi-level marketing.
I've gone to those Mary Kay meetings and they do things differently- plus, just about every woman wears make up so it isn't like you are selling something completely options that they would never otherwise use. Mary Kay makes great products (I don't use many of them myself but I have tried a few products and like them).
How is the Mary Kay stuff going anyway?
Hey Courtney! I know, I can't stand pushy sales people. If you want to buy it you will. Mary Kay is going okay for me right now, not great but it's chugging along :) Thanks for asking!!
I think I'll get better once I get a good network here in Wilmington. All of my friends live in Raleigh so it's harder to do it here, not impossible though :) We're doing a table event on Saturday where we go to an event and have an MK table where people can sign up to get a facial, I'm hoping to get some good contacts that way!
