Alcoholic Signs
I drive past this billboard on my way to work every. single. morning. It used to say Cut. Color. Cocktail and then all of a sudden one day there was a big pink oval with the word "Censored" inside it and a pink circle with a cocktail. As I drive by it always makes me wonder what the heck happened to make them have to change it. Usually by the time I get past the sign and ponder my little ponder, I've become more absorbed in how horribly people can't drive and forgotten all about the sign. Well I finally decided to find out why in the world they changed it so I googled it and got this story:Apparently it had it's original saying for 9 months before a NC ALE Agent saw the sign. Apparently NC has a law that an establishment can advertise that they sell alcohol in all ways except billboards. I'm sure this is in some sort of warped effort to prevent drinking and driving. I don't understand that in the least... if you see an ad for alcohol on a billboard are you any more likely to drive to the nearest ABC store and buy liqueur than you are if you hear it on the radio while you're driving?? I'm going to make the assumption that you're answer to that would be no...otherwise you should probably go surrender your license immediately because you are quite the detriment to society.
Regardless, the new sign has apparently increased their business and the owner of the company claims that she's just following the rules and isn't trying to make any kind of point or protest on the matter. I think that's lovely. She could be causing a big stink over this silliness but really they did her a favor. If you see a big pink oval that says censored you, like me, are probably more likely to investigate the reasoning behind it. I'm sure this lady is uber thankful for the ALE Agent doing his job and making her adjust her signage because it's drawing in more business for her. It's quite refreshing how this all worked out for everyone in the end. Law abiding citizens take note...you too can be rewarded for doing what's right.
